R2A laboratory analysis provides a quantitative result rather than a defined screening range.
Samples are analyzed by our professional lab techs using the established SM 9215C analytical method.
Receive formal lab reporting that can be retained with your practice's waterline documentation.
A detailed lab result can be useful when investigating elevated results or evaluating whether corrective action has worked.
Lab testing can provide a more detailed picture of water quality when starting or reviewing a waterline management approach.
AquaDENTAL LAB is backed by I-2-I Solutions, an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, using SM 9215C Spread Plate Method with R2A agar to deliver reliable heterotrophic plate counts and a clear, accurate measure of bacterial levels in your dental waterlines.

Each kit includes sample vials, a sampling form, an insulated mailer with an ice pack and a prepaid return-shipping label. Collect water from each waterline following the instructions, label the vials, complete the form, pack everything in the mailer and drop it with the carrier. Overnight shipping is included so samples reach our laboratory the next day.
Heterotrophic plate count analysis requires an incubation period, so results are typically ready 5 to 7 days after your samples arrive at the lab. You will be notified by email when your report is available in AquaIRIS.
Samples are analyzed in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory operated by I-2-I Solutions using Standard Methods 9215C (spread plate) with R2A agar, the heterotrophic plate count method widely preferred for dental unit water because it recovers the slow-growing organisms typical of waterline biofilm.
Your report lists each sample with its location (practice and operatory), collection date, the CFU/mL result and how it compares to the ≤500 CFU/mL benchmark. Reports are stored in AquaIRIS alongside your testing history so you can review trends over time.
Yes. Keep samples refrigerated until shipping if you cannot ship them the same day, and ship with the included ice pack so they arrive chilled. Avoid freezing the samples.
An elevated result is a signal to review your waterline maintenance program: follow the dental-unit and water-treatment-product manufacturers' instructions (which may include a shock treatment), then retest to confirm the correction worked. Our Resources Hub has a detailed guide on what to do when a result exceeds 500 CFU/mL, and our team is available to help.
